Celebrating the Minnesota Twins and National Library Week

We have two events to celebrate this week...the inaugural Minnesota Twins home opener at their new home, Target Field, and it's National Library Week.

Did you know that the ERHS Media Center can help you gain knowledge of the Minnesota Twins?

If you go to our Electronic Resources* and then use the Proquest Newspapers database, you can see what the Canadians are saying about the Twins and their new stadium.  Before you leave Proquest Newspapers, do a search on our hometown favorite Twin, Joe Mauer.

Next, check out one of our NEW databases, EBSCO's Expanded Academic ASAP.  Try an advanced search and search for the keywords "baseball" and "Minnesota" and "Twins."  Your search results will be from 8 academic journals, 338 magazines, 1,590 newspapers, 2 multimedia and 61 images.  After reading about Joe Mauer (Proquest Newspapers) and his 8-year, $184 million contract extension, check out the video "Ticket Prices, Payrolls Increase with New MLB Stadiums" in the multimedia search results.  Do you think Joe Mauer is worth it?

Don't forget to check out our book collection.  We have books about baseball and biographies of Twins greats Rod Carew, Kent Hrbek and Kirby Puckett.  You can also check out the latest Sports Illustrated magazine (or past issues) to see what they are saying about our Minnesota Twins.

Getting to Target Field has been in the news, with the light-rail train being packed full of Twins fans.  Did you know that you can hop on the Northstar Commuter Train in Elk River and get dropped off right at Target Field?  How cool is that!

You may think that getting to a Twins game by train is something new, but check out Minnesota Reflections, another of our NEW databases.   Fans of the St. Paul Saints, one of the first professional baseball teams in Minnesota, rode to Midway Stadium on streetcars!

Let's all cheer for the Minnesota Twins and the ERHS Media Center!

Now, in honor of April being National Poetry Month, let's all sing our favorite Minnesota Twins poem...all together now...

We're gonna win, Twins

We're gonna score

We're gonna win, Twins

Watch that baseball soar!

Crack out a home run

Shout a hip-hooray

Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!

Play Ball!
